Personalized Dental Care For The Whole Family

As family dentists, Doctors Melissa and Randall work with children, adults and geriatrics—making dental care for the entire family conveniently available all under one roof. Our family dentistry services address a broad spectrum of dental needs to enhance and restore your smile’s health.

Why Family Dentistry?

Family dentists undergo specialized training in order to treat people of all ages. One advantage of seeing a family dentist is that everyone in your family can receive dental care of all kinds in the same place. Another advantage to a family dentistry practice is that there is no need to find a separate pediatric dentist that your child will eventually grow out of. At Stewart Dental Group, we grow with you!

Our Family Dentistry Services

Our experienced dentists and caring team strive to provide the highest-quality of family dentistry services in the Charlotte area. We offer the following services for our patients and their families:

Dental Fillings

Dental fillings repair teeth that are affected by tooth decay, and they are one of the most common services that we offer. Most people have around three dental fillings. However, it is not uncommon for a person to have multiple dental fillings. There are several different types of materials used to create fillings, and our experienced dentists will help you choose the best fit for your lifestyle.

Mouth Guards

Mouth guards act as a protective shield for the mouth. The device fits over the top front teeth, providing padding and protection from common injuries that occur while playing sports. Correctly and consistently wearing a mouth guard while participating in a sport helps prevent tooth trauma from a fall, body contact or another incident that inevitably comes with playing a sport. At Stewart Dental Group in Charlotte, NC, we fit young and adult athletes alike with custom-fit mouth guards that form perfectly to the patient’s smile.

Root Canals

When tooth decay reaches the pulp of a tooth and becomes infected, we do everything we can to save the tooth. This involves performing a root canal on the tooth to prevent needing to extract it, and unnecessary extractions of permanent teeth can lead to problems with the jaw and your overall oral health. At Stewart Dental Group, we help patients with infected teeth safely and comfortably receive the care they need to save their teeth.

Tooth Extraction

Our dentists prioritize preserving the teeth whenever possible. Pulling unnecessary teeth can cause bone loss in the jaw, affecting the shape of your face and negatively impacting your overall oral health. Sometimes, extraction is the best option. If this is the case, Dr. Randall and Melissa Stewart will remove the affected tooth or teeth to relieve pain, create space or improve the patient’s dental health.

Pediatric Dentistry

At Stewart Dental Group, we believe that good dental habits start early. Your child’s first appointment should take place by the time they turn one year old. From there, your child should visit us every six months for regular cleanings and monitoring. Pediatric dental services center on preventive care that includes cavity prevention, fluoride treatments and dental fillings. Routine dental care from infancy on helps create strong, healthy teeth for a lifetime.

Family Dentistry FAQs

Family dentistry, also known as a general dentist, is a dental professional who provides a wide range of comprehensive dental services to patients of all ages, from children to adults and seniors. Their primary focus is on maintaining and improving the overall oral health of their patients and treating common dental problems as they arise.

You and your family should visit the dentist for regular dental check-ups and cleanings every six months. However, we may recommend more frequent visits depending on certain risk factors, such as pregnancy and other health conditions.

Regular preventative dental care helps prevent issues such as developing cavities that could lead to gum disease, detect problems early and maintain overall oral health.

Patients should brush their teeth at least twice a day, floss daily and use an antimicrobial mouthwash. They should also avoid tobacco and limit sugary foods and drinks.

If you or your child experience any amount of anxiety about visiting the dentist, let us know. We can help you feel as comfortable as possible by offering strategies to help you relax during your appointment, such as sedation options.
